The Feud for the SmackDown Women’s Championship Heats Up

SmackDown LIVE General Manager Daniel Bryan held a forum ahead of Sunday’s Six-Pack Elimination Challenge for the first-ever SmackDown Women’s Championship. Every competitor was on edge with the huge matchup now firmly looming over all of their heads. Eventually and inevitably, chaos broke out between the six trailblazers when Carmella, Natalya and Alexa Bliss surrounded Becky Lynch in the ring, drawing Naomi and Nikki Bella to come to her aid. Backlash had come early — both figuratively and literally — and the women doubled-down on their outburst, with a Six-Women Tag Team Match looming later in the evening
Throughout history there have been many unlikely pairs — Floyd Mayweather and Justin Bieber, Hamilton and Broadway, and now, especially with the SmackDown Women’s Championship Six-Pack Challenge looming, these two teams of three comprised of the SmackDown LIVE Women’s division.
The action was just as manic as it was earlier in the night with all six women wanting to both secure the win for their team and gain any possible advantage they could over the other five heading into the championship opportunity on Sunday.
In the end, Carmella yet again dropped Nikki Bella, taking advantage of the frenzy to defeat Bella with the Code of Silence.

New SmackDown Women’s Title Debuts + Naomi on Commentary

Daniel Bryan & Shane McMahon have something special for all the fans tonight on SmackDown, as it was announced earlier in the day that there would be both a new Women’s Championship for the Team Blue brand AND a set of tag team titles debuting tonight. As all the participants from the SummerSlam tag match looked on at the new belt, Daniel Bryan complimented the women on their efforts on the PPV and said each lady is a championship level talent.
Shane follows that up by saying that we will crown the first SmackDown Women’s Champion at Backlash in a first ever women’s 6 pack challenge.

Later in the evening both Natalya and Naomi join commentary during Becky Lynch vs. Alexa Bliss. Natalya claims she was born better and the title will soon be hers. Mauro asks Naomi that since she comes out like if she would put her own personal flair on the Championship if she wins it. Naomi comments that she would have to give the belt some Naomi Flavor of course. Naomi and Nattie exchange words as the match in the ring wraps up and it’s very clear that all these women are not going to go down easy at Backlash.

Match Result: Nikki, Natalya & Alexa Bliss def. Naomi, Becky & Carmella

With Eva Marie recuperating from anxiety and stress brought on by the WWE Universe, many thought Natalya and Alexa Bliss were at a disadvantage heading into what was supposed to be a Six-Woman Tag Team Match at SummerSlam. However, the third-generation Superstar and the SmackDown Live newcomer had an ace up their sleeves to even the odds. Nikki Bella joined the two competitors, returning from a neck injury that kept her out of action for nearly a year to guide her team to victory over Becky Lynch, Naomi & Carmella.

The Barclays Center came unglued when the star of the upcoming E! reality show “Total Bellas” arrived, but it did not seem to give her team the upper hand in the early moments of the match, as Natalya fell victim to exciting offense from The Princess of Staten Island and Naomi.
The tide turned when Nikki tagged into the match and planted Carmella into the canvas with a spinebuster, then showed that she was feeling “Fearless” and in peak physical condition by banging out a few push-ups. The trio of Bella, Bliss & Natalya trapped Carmella in their corner, wearing down The Princess of Staten Island and preventing her partners from tagging into the bout.

Carmella was able to scurry away from Natalya and send the Irish Lass-Kicker into action. Becky hurled her rivals around with aplomb as bodies flew across the ring in a flurry of Bexploder Suplexes. The bout soon broke down, with all six women brawling in the squared circle. When the dust settled, Nikki Bella clobbered The Princess of Staten Island with a hard elbow, following up with a TKO to pick up the victory.

Naomi vs. Eva Marie – Match Did Not Happen

Naomi arrives on SmackDown Live with an all new colorful entrance, complete with black lights and remixed theme music! Admin Note: Her colorful new gear and highlighted hair really stands out and it is good to see WWE allowing the talent to have these more elaborate entrances that showcase their characters very well.
Naomi enters the ring and looks ready for a fight with Eva Marie, who lately has been “too good” to compete on SmackDown and she has come up with constant excuses for not wrestling. Tonight as her entrance plays it is quickly announced she can not appear because she is stuck in traffic and is “very sorry”. This leaves Naomi without an opponent and without a match this week.

So Natalya’s got another shot at Charlotte at WWE Payback. This might be a problem for Charlotte, since The Queen of Harts made the WWE Women’s Champion tap out with no disqualification in sight to save her at the conclusion of a wild, eight-woman battle on Raw. Not only that, but Natalya ended up saving the match for her team, which was evenly matched against a squad of scoundrels in Charlotte, Naomi, Tamina & Summer Rae. Ironically, it was Charlotte who set herself up for defeat by tagging in off Summer Rae, who had been holding steady against Natalya. The No. 1 contender found her second wind the second Charlotte entered the ring, capitalizing off a ring-clearing assist from her teammates to tap the champion out with (yep) flair.

The Total Divas (Brie Bella, Eva Marie, Alicia Fox, Paige, and Natalya) vs. Team B.A.D. and Blonde (Naomi, Tamina, Emma, Summer Rae, and Lana)

Alicia Fox will start against Summer Rae. They lock up, and Alicia viciously elbows her in the face before kicking her in the back. Summer forearms her back before having a whip reversed. They move in slow motion for a few moments before Alicia hits a dropkick. Alicia hits a scary tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. All ten divas enter the ring, and the referee tries to keep the peace.

-Commercial Break-

We come back from the break to see Eva Marie in the ring with Emma. The crowd is loudly booing Eva, and she taunts them. Eva connects with a head-scissor takeover. Eva hits a snap suplex and taunts the opposing team before hitting a second suplex. The crowd is lightly chanting, “You can’t wrestle.” Eva hits Natalya with a hard tag. Natalya picks Emma up, and Emma slaps her. Naomi is tagged in, and she chops Natalya. Natalya fights her back, but Naomi begins kicking away at her before missing a dropkick by a mile. Natalya slams her down before hitting a front dropkick for a two count. Paige is tagged in, and she hits the Hart Attack with Natalya. Paige hits a shining wizard on Naomi before connecting with a high knee. Naomi quickly gets out with a double knee before missing an avalanche. Emma is tagged in, and Paige goes for a wheelbarrow, but Emma counters into a suplex for a near fall. Emma stands on the hair and pulls her up. Lana is tagged in, and she gets a good reception. Lana kicks Paige in the back of the head before giving her a forearm. Paige pushes her off, but Lana takes her out with a bicycle kick. Lana taunts Brie, and the referee holds her back. Lana mocks the “YES” chant before tagging Tamina in. Tamina covers Paige for a two count. Tamina hits a suplex for a two count. Tamina applies a neck vice, but Paige fights up. Tamina sends her to the corner and punches her. Tamina puts her on the top rope and goes for a superplex, but Paige fights her off. Naomi comes in for a double superplex. Natalya goes for a tower of doom, but they fight her off. Paige then throws Naomi and Tamina out of the ring and connects with a cross-body to the floor on the heel diva team.

Tamina stops Paige from making the tag and puts her back in her corner. Emma is tagged in, and she puts Paige in the corner. Emma stomps away at her, but Paige counters with a sloppy move into the turnbuckle. Brie and Naomi are tagged in. Brie clotheslines Naomi and knocks Lana off the apron. Brie kicks away at Naomi’s chest a la Daniel Bryan. The crowd is loudly doing the “YES” chant. Brie hits the Bella Buster, but Lana breaks it up. Natalya clotheslines Lana, and Tamina lays Natalya out with a Samoan Drop. Eva comes in and gives Tamina Sliced Bread #2 to loud boos. The divas continue taking each other out before Paige hits Emma with a fall-away slam. Naomi hits the Rear View on Paige before Brie knocks her down. Naomi avoids a knee to the face and dropkicks her. Naomi taunts the crowd before hitting a split-legged moonsault, but Brie kind of gets the knee up. Brie goes to the top rope, but Naomi is clearly on the opposite side of the ring. Lana knocks Brie off the top rope. Naomi tries to capitalize, but Brie counters into the YES! Lock for the win!
